The Chukuni River leads into Red Lake to the South and into Gull Rock Lake to the North East. The many bays and inlets of this magnificent waterway is home to countless fish of many species and is ideal for fishing. The following types of fish in Red Lake can be found in our river and its adjoining lakes:
The end of May & June are the months where our fish are most active and easiest to catch. However, at any time of year at Red Lake, quality catches can be had from Chukuni River Campground`s water playground.
Every year, the Fall Walleye Fishing Tournament: Red Lake Fall Classic brings in over 140 teams of fishermen that descend upon the waters of Red Lake. Fishermen from all over try to catch the biggest walleye. The competition lasts 2 days where the teams of boaters have 7-8 hours each day to catch the 5 biggest fish they can. The prizes are awesome and the fishing is exciting! The tournament is catch and release so all the fish that the fishermen/fisherwomen bring in must be very alive and ready to take a quick bath in energizing waters in the fish tournament`s hospital before returning to the lake to keep our fish population high and the fishing great for years to come.
One of the owners of Chukuni River Campground, Ralf Fischer was among the Top 10 Fishermen of the year for 2013 out of 148 teams. More news on his big win coming soon… For now, here is the final leaderboard for the 2013 Red Lake Fall Classic.
